Soprano Ukulele

Soprano Ukulele

This beauty was made using a 100+ year old Douglas fir soundboard that was reclaimed from a demolished house in Detroit. At the widest point, there are at least 50 grain lines per inch and the wood is perfectly quarter sawn, so it is very strong and that allowed me to make the top thinner than usual. The back and sides are Madagascar Rosewood.  The bindings are Ceylon Satinwood with black, white and red wood purfling lines and there is a thin ring of abalone around the sound hole. The mahogany neck holds a rosewood fretboard with abalone diamond position markers. The neck is 1 3/8″ wide at the nut and the scale length is 13 1/2″. The bridge is very light weight koa with a bone saddle. The nut is ebony.  I installed geared Grover tuning machines for accurate adjustment. The finish is high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
